The Nissan Connect 4 navigation unit (AIVIL42P0) becomes immobilized when removed from its original vehicle, preventing its use in another car or for extended bench testing. Typically, the first time after removal, the unit remains operational on the bench for approximately 30 minutes before displaying the message:
“SYSTEM IS LOCKED. RED, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR NISSAN DEALER.”
Once this message appears, the unit is locked and cannot be used or tested further. Unfortunately, Nissan dealers are generally unable to assist with unlocking previously used units.
*Note: Units used in non-EU markets typically do not have the immobilizer function activated.
Connectors quantity and type on the back panel might be different and depends on model hardware configuration.
Examining the system wiring in the car, you can notice that ACC and Ignition wires are not available in the wiring anymore, only constant power is supplied to the system. The system wakeup is now carried out over the CAN bus. However, examining system hardware reveals that ACC and Ignition signals over separate wires are still supported internally. This discovery allows the system to be powered on the bench by applying these signals to the corresponding pins.
To test the system on the bench while overriding its security—or to permanently install the radio in a different car—a CAN filter (emulator) can be installed on the external wiring.
Important! The CAN bus filter must be configured for this unit type by soldering jumper J1 on the PCB.
The CAN filter can be installed inside the navigation unit, providing a more integrated solution that allows the unit to be used seamlessly in any compatible vehicle.
By performing an internal installation, there is no need for external wiring modifications, offering a clean, OEM-like appearance and permanent security override functionality.
📢 Upcoming Update:
Detailed instructions, including pictures and information on the internal CAN filter installation, will be added soon. Stay tuned! 🙂 🚧
